This past weekend was a whirlwind of stuff with AWS.  Great show at the Newman Center in Denver with lots of rehearsal beforehand.  Very busy two weeks coming up.  Two orchestra concerts, planning for lecture recital, trips to Rochester, NY, playing lecture recital, and the start of the Summer semester.  So…tonight’s performance is a performance art piece called “Discovery Channel Watch in Preparation for Crazy Two Weeks of Early Mornings, Coffee, House Hunting, and Driving.”  Brought to you by the letter C for “C-Ya in two weeks.”

Lesson, lesson, haircut, FOOD(!), flight, hang, more food, shortness of breath, mile-high sleep, awake, shower, play, play, play, play, meeting, play, play, play, shortness of breath, beer, food, sleep, awake, work(?), rehearse, 1969, beer, sleep, awake, flight, ears pop, work, work, work, work, work, orchestra, work, recital!

Giving a final exam for my Jazz Theory Class, I realized, while playing “Autumn Leaves” with my student, that it’s really difficult to play and pay attention to someone else playing at the same time.  Don’t have time to talk about this right now, but I’ll come back to it.  Meanwhile, I’ll ask your advice.  How do you play with focus and creativity while still paying attention to the other band members and what they’re playing?
